Yesterday, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that it would raise the price of playstation 5 Console in various non-US regions due to global economic conditions such as inflation. Microsoft announced later that day that it would not do this with the Xbox Series X/S. Now, Nintendo has quipped on the matter.
in a statement to eurogamer, Nintendo reiterated a quote from President Shuntaro Furukawa made in June, in which he said the company “has no plans to increase the business value of its hardware.” Furukawa made this statement during the 82nd Annual General Meeting of Shareholders that month, in which he also said:
“While we cannot comment on pricing strategies, we currently have no plans to change the price of our hardware due to inflation or increased procurement costs in each country. Will determine our future pricing strategies.”
Although the PlayStation 5 price will remain unchanged in the US (for now), both versions of the console have become more expensive in Canada, Europe, the UK, Mexico, Japan, and Australia. The price hike has already been implemented in regions except Japan, which takes place on September 15.
The only time Nintendo adjusted the price of its current console was last fall. Permanently reduced the cost of the standard switch model in the UK and Europe. Nintendo hasn’t done this in the US yet
